Tounge Reconstruction with Medial Sural Artery Perforator Flap: A Case Report

چکیده
There are numerous perforator flaps reported in the literature for head and neck reconstruction. We are presenting a case report of squamous cell carcinoma of Tongue which was operated by hemi glossectomy, modified radical neck dissection and reconstruction was done with medial sural artery perforator flap (MSAP). Preoperatively handheld Doppler was used to identify the perforator. The size of the flap was 5 × 6 cm, with 6 mm thick. The Medial Sural Artery Perforator Flap for tongue reconstruction is selected in our case as it is thin, pliable skin, reliable and sufficient vascular pedicle length.

Introduction The medial sural artery perforator (MSAP) flap was first described in 2001. Having constant anatomy, long pedicle, and pliable soft tissue, the flap was shown to be a good alternative option for soft tissue reconstruction. The aim of this study was to report our experience with this flap for reconstruction throughout the body, highlighting its potentially increasing role as a workh...

BACKGROUND The medial sural artery perforator (MSAP) flap is becoming a popular strategy for reconstructing intraoral defects. We present a case in which no MSAPs were present, however, a perforator-based calf flap was successfully raised on the sural artery and used for tongue reconstruction. A corresponding anatomic study was undertaken to establish if this finding was reproducible. METHODS...

The medial sural artery perforator (MSAP) flap captures the cutaneous territory of the medial calf, and can potentially be advantageous as a thin free flap, even in the most obese individual, for coverage of most foot and/or ankle defects where bulk is a liability. The anatomy is fairly constant, as usually at least one reasonably large perforator can always be found emanating from the medial h...

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of upper extremity deformities continues to be a challenge to the reconstructive surgeon. Various loco regional, distant and free flaps are available for reconstruction. However, each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Of the commonly performed local flaps, radial artery forearm flap, and the posterior interosseus artery flap stand out prominently. Rec...

BACKGROUND The medial sural (medial gastrocnemius) perforator flap is a thin flap with a long pedicle. It has tremendous potential for applications in a variety of soft-tissue defects. We aimed to further clarify the vascular anatomy of the medial sural region and establish a safe approach for elevation of this flap. METHODS Ten fresh cadaveric lower limbs were injected and used in this study...
